Different helmet models offer different replacement part options

If something has broken on your helmet, don't throw it away. First see if you can get it repaired or possibly replacement helmet parts are available.

If your helmet has suffered an impact, then likely the impact absorption material has been damaged and your helmet will need to be replaced. Certain suppliers (e.g. Shoei) offer a free service where you can send in your helmet for a condition assessment, they will report back and let you know whether it needs to be replaced.

If however your helmet hasn't suffered an impact, but something else is broken, then possibly you can get replacement helmet parts without having to replace your whole helmet. Common replacement parts depending on the helmet brand and model:

Helmet parts are yet another reason for purchasing a good quality helmet in the first instance. Quality helmets are less likely to have issues with parts breaking, and the better helmets also tend to have more replacement parts available if something does go wrong. You will also find that better quality helmets have a greater variety of different part options for them, for instance a larger range of different colors, styles and tints of visors (shields).

If your helmet is a cheapie, it is unlikely that you will find the replacement part you need and you may need to replace your whole helmet. But it is always worth checking first what is available, you may be pleaseantly surprised.

Before you 'bin' your helmet, check for replacement helmet parts offered by the supplier. Generally the easiest place to check will be your local motorcycle dealership. However if you find them unhelpful most major helmet suppliers have a contact center where you can call or email.
