Visor Tear Offs
Have you ever tried to clean road grime & bugs off your visor while riding, only to smear it around & impair your vision even more? Visor tear offs can help.
What they are
Visor tear offs are thin plastic films which stick onto your helmet visor (shield). The films have tabs for easy removal, designed so that you can remove the outer plastic visor layer while riding with your motorcycle gloves on.
How they work
Before you apply visor films to your helmet ensure your helmet visor is perfectly clean. Visor tear offs are then carefully applied onto your visor, ensuring that you get no wrinkles. Generally you would apply 3 to 5 visor tear-offs, any more and you risk impairing your vision.
During riding, to remove a tear off you simply grab the tab off the top most tear off and carefully rip it off. You may want to leave a pocket open on your jacket so that you can stuff the visor film inside.
You will also find tear offs which are made primarily to protect and increase the life of your visor, these are designed to stay on for longer periods of time and not designed to be ripped off while riding. The process of applying these tear offs is more involved and for ideal results requires a heat gun. However once applied you shouldn' be able to tell that it has been applied, and it will protect your visor from scratches.
Are they right for you?
Visor tear offs are normally associated with racing, where you don't get an opportunity to stop and clean your visor if you do get road grime impairing your vision. However there is no reason you cannot apply a couple of tear off layers to your shield before you leave on a casual ride. You will find different qualities of tear offs; riders have complained that certain cheap tear-offs impair vision. Generally tear-offs are made to be applied to visors with tear off 'points' or 'buttons', tear offs do come in different shapes and sizes, you will need to check that visor tear offs are suitable for your visor before you decide to purchase.
