Motorcycle Radio

For many people it just doesn’t get better than the freedom of cruising down the less used highways; unknown potential ahead of you and everything else just rolling away behind you. However if you want to add sound to your experience try a Motorcycle Radio.

Radio Types

There are two main categories of motorcycle radio, those that just receive, and those that receive and transmit.

The radios built to receive are like your car stereo - modern technology can play cd’s and mp3 files, can connect with your mp3 player (ipod) via an auxiliary in plug, and can connect to a USB drive via a USB plug – the possibilities are significant. You just need to know which features are important to you and make sure you select a device which has the capabilities.

The other category, built to send and receive, the CB radios, are designed primarily for communication. With modern technology there are wireless systems which tend to be shorter range and are generally mounted on your helmet, and then there are the wired systems which often utilize a more generic portable CB radio system with helmet wiring and speakers to make it more specifically applicable to motorcycle riders.

Radio Accessories for your helmet

If you are looking for a wired system, then depending on the motorcycle radio system you choose to go with there are varying other compoents you will also need to get up and running. These include helmet speakers, cabling, a microphone if you are using a CB radio or other form of transmitter, plus specific adapters for your mobile phone, GPS, radar detector or any other accessory you are connecting to.

Motorcycling has traditionally been a solo endeavour, but with developments in motorcycle radio it can now be as shared and social as you wish.
