What Helmet Brands to Professional Riders Use?
Professional riders use a wide range of helmets, there are certain brands which are more prolific in the racing scene like AVG, Arai and Shoei, but by no means are they the only helmets used, and these brands will not necessarily be best for you. It is better to make your own choice about which helmet is right for you than to simply use what your favorite professional rider uses. For instance it is no good buying Valentino Rossi's helmet if you will mostly ride off-road.
Major Helmet sponsorships include:
- AVG is worn by famous Moto GP rider Valentino Rossi
- Arai sponsor the four current American Moto GP riders and current Superbike World Championship leader Noriyuki Haga
- Shoei sponsor American Superbike rider Ben Bostram and Motocross rider Kevin Windham
- Nolan tends to sponsor up and coming riders in Moto GP
- Icon sponsor a number of stunt riders
What Helmet Brand is the cheapest?
We don't recommend you wear the cheapest possible helmet brands, so we are not going to list names. Motorcycling does have its risks, and it is vitally important that you select a helmet which is right for you. It must be DOT approved and we also recommend that you find a helmet which is Snell certified.
We however do understand that many riders are starting out and looking for a helmet that offers quality protection but at a cheaper price. There are a number of ways of finding cheaper helmets of quality. One is to buy last year's helmet model when it is offered at a discounted 'sale' price due to another model being launched or new stock arriving. We don't recommend buying helmets second hand as it can be too difficult to determine if it has been damaged. Shoei have a free service where they will inspect a Shoei helmet for free and provide an inspection report on it - through this means you could get a Shoei helmet inspected, but be sure to check Shoei's terms and conditions before proceeding.
At MotorcycleHelmetCritic.com we recommend you choose well respected helmet brands that have a history of producing quality, safe motorcycle helmets. You need to be both comfortable in a helmet and confident that it provides an adequate level of safety protection.
